Maria is a Mexican immigrant who grew up in the Central Valley of California where she was always close to agriculture. Like many immigrant children, she spent some summers working in the fields where she learned to appreciate the hard work that goes into growing and harvesting fruits and vegetables.

Maria was the first in her family to attend college and spent the first eight years of her career in Operations & Finance at The Gallo Winery after graduating from CSU, Stanislaus with a bachelor’s in Business Administration.  She transitioned to nonprofit work in 2012 when she accepted a role at Northern Light School, a nonprofit committed to providing a high-quality education for children from all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. It was there that she learned her passion lies in helping others and advocating for more just and equitable communities. Most recently, she worked as an Assistant Director of Development. In 2019, she also co-founded and led an organic food company with a mission to empower and nourish a nation of Dreamers. Her company received B Corporation Pending status, championed a positive message, delivered positive nutrition, and donated at least 1% of annual sales to a nonprofit investing in the Latino community.

Maria is excited to have the opportunity to work for Kitchen Table Advisors where her lived personal and professional experience will support her work in advocating for the support of small sustainable farms and ranches.
