Maclovia was born and raised in rural northern New Mexico, where her family has lived and farmed for many generations. As a teenager, she accompanied her mother to the Santa Fe Farmers Market to help her sell traditional herbal remedies. Maclovia received her BA in Environmental Studies from Yale University, working for the Santa Fe Farmers Market every summer throughout college. She then received her Masters of Environmental Science degree from the Yale School of the Environment. Her master’s thesis told the stories of New Mexican farmers, looking particularly at the idea of “querencia,” a Spanish word that invokes the connection to place and love of the land that is forged through agricultural practice. During and after graduate school, Maclovia worked for several organizations that supported small farmers.
Most recently, Maclovia was the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Program Director at Earthjustice, where she worked to build equitable organizational processes and foster a culture of belonging. She is delighted to be working in the agriculture space again and to be part of the team at Kitchen Table Advisors, doing work that is very close to her heart. Outside of work, Maclovia enjoys performing folk music from the Balkans.
